Hi all,
I'm a photographer and took this butterfly picture but unfortunately I have no idea what kind it is. Can anyone help me with this? I'm submitting it to a contest tomorrow and would like to provide some background info on the species.
Thanks!
Kimberly

It looks very like a Heliconius sp. Passion Flower Butterfly - but could possibly be a subspecies.

You don't say where you took the photo, which sometimes help to ID them. Did you happen to take this one somewhere in Central or South America or a Butterfly house locally? This one is commonly found in the tropics....Central and South America.
It appears to be a Postman Butterfly Heliconius melpomene

Their host plant is the Passion Flower Vine

Thanks for help! I took this photo in the butterfly garden at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
