Can you point out where exactly the black areas are on the actual pepper itself?

It sounds like a disease to me. There is some information about various pepper diseases at the following adress http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/PP122

thanks again for getting back to us. at the base of each node or branch where it branches off the main stalk it is black and it's like the black on the pepper itself is kinda under the out skin. we actually picked one tonite and cut it open and the inside was perfectly green and had a good amount of seeds in them.

Are they growing indoors or outside Dan and Sarah? If outdoors has it been frosty or very cold? This happened to mine last year (I don't have a greenhouse) and I think it was because I put them out too early in the year and the cold nipped them causing the black at the base of each node and the growing point of the peppers that you talk about. If they are in a greenhouse are they maybe in a draught?

Hope you find a solution to your problem. :)

they are growing outdoors. we live in florida, so cold temperature wouldn't have anything to do with it. and it gets watered every morning. our water is well water, and very sulfery. are we better off using the water after it's been softened and purified?
