Saw this cute little guy (about 1/2 to 3/4 inches) on the roostercomb. Anybody know what it is?

I believe that is a gray hairstreak butterfly. Did you get to see what the inside wing pattern was? They are very very tiny and mine are always rubbing their wings together :)

No I didn't get to see the inside of the wings.
    He sure was tiny!

I think you may be right about it being a gray hairstreak butterfly. I did a little looking online and it seems to match. If I see it again, I'll try to see if it'll open up it's wings for another photo!
    Thanks for the help!

Your welcome! I have a open wing photo if you want to see it. I get this one confused a lot with the Eastern Tailed Blue they look so much alike :)

OMG! Yes... it's gorgeous! :smt045 I hope he's still hanging around when I get home.
Wonder how I can coax him to spread those wings?

Mine seem to open their wings more when they are direct sunlight :) I get photo's of my butterflies between 11 am and 3 pm they seem the most active in my yard at those times. A little trick I do is if one is in the sun with it's wings closed I stand in front of it to put it in the shade for a bit then move and they open their wings LOL!

Those are such pretty pictures. Are you using a point and shoot camera on the macro function or a dslr with a macro?

What's a Macro? Is that zoom? Sorry just started taking pics this year. But I use a Kodak EasyShare C182 and used the zoom feature.

Macro is a setting that's used for close-up shots. (When you can get close to the object instead of zooming in on it.) On my camera, it has a little flower icon. Typically the object is super sharp while the background is more out of focus.
