Just got in from the vegetable garden and had a basket of fresh green beans, about a dozen bell peppers, and another basket of Swiss chard. I love fall gardens!
Anyone else reaping the benefits of cooler weather and more rain?

    I don't understand the question. :D

Enjoy your beans. We had a few this year, and the same with carrots and peas. No pumpkins due to the very cold weather and amounts of rain. I'm blaming it on the volcano Eyafjollajøkull on Iceland of course.

My guess is that your cooler weather and more rain is what we call "summer" where I live. Wanna swap houses?

Yup, same here. Your "cooler" weather is probably what we in Ontario enjoyed as our summer. Although I DID pick some Swiss Chard this afternoon from my garden for a friend :)

When there is more rain here, it means more weeds to fight with !! :D it gets cooler only if the sun don't come out.

I'm still getting a few tomatoes and bell peppers.

Green beans are done but I have 16 bags in the freezer so I'm a happy gal. I'm still getting a few lima bush beans. It's getting too cold for them to do much more but the handful a day I'm shelling will be a nice addition to a vegetable soup. There's gonna be lots of plants to turn under.

Now I'm harvesting lettuce, spinach, bok choy, kale, collards and chard.

Fava beans started popping up yesterday. This is the first time I've planted them. I expect them to overwinter here and harvest to begin in spring.

I dug my sweet potatoes the week before Halloween. I could have left them until frost but I needed the space. I got three dishpans full of sweet potatoes.
They are so delicious. We can't have a root cellar here so I'm thinking I'll have to cook and freeze some. I could can them I suppose but I really don't like canned sweet potatoes--home canned or store bought ones. I'm experiment with dehydrating some. I dried six of them because I have no idea how we'll like them.

I have about 8 large butternut squash left and about 12 two-cup containers of Hopi Squash in the freezer.

I have bunching onions and leeks coming up. There are carrots and beets that won't be ready for quite a while. I started bulb onions for transplants in a flat with some input from Mart. They are peeking up already. I'll move them into garden beds in mid-January.

I put out brussels sprouts and broccoli. We'll see how that goes. The plants are healthy and happy though. I'll plant more broccoli in the spring.

My husband cracks me up. "Are you sure there's no way to have fresh broccoli in the summer", he asked me. We had several 110 degree days this past summer.

I have some rainbow chard that I am harvesting and will continue to harvest until we eat it all or a hard freeze comes along. It is so pretty that it is hard to decide whether to have eye candy for the soul or some yummy vegies for the tummy.
