I am told that this tree is somewhere in South Africa. I am sharing these pictures over here, because I find it amazing that someone was able to crave so many sculptures, while keeping the tree alive!
If these pictures have been posted in our forums before, then I ask the moderators to please delete this thread (as I do not wish to cause any duplication).

Those carvings are amazing. I wonder how long it took to complete them all and who did the carving? They are so detailed and accurate. Thanks for sharing this wonderful tree with us.

That is utterly amazing! I wonder of the tree has natural outgrowths that can be carved without damaging the cadmium layer. However the carvings were done, they show a lot of talent and ingenuity!

I'm sorry to disappoint everyone but the tree isn't what we all think it is. While I was researching 'Carved tree in South Africa' this is what I found:-
"This 14-story attraction was sculpted by more than a dozen artisans. The 50-foot wide tree decorated with 325 animal carvings is the centerpiece of Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park in Florida."
There are pictures of the tree on the Disney website.
I still think it is totally amazing though and (in a way) am glad that so many people will be bale to see it and appreciate its beauty.

Guess you are right Eileen. As I too have now done some searching on the web, and have found this place:

Now over here they say that there is an email going around (a variation of which I no doubt got), which says that this tree is in India - My email said that it was in South Africa...
I guess posting these pictures without knowing it's background is my mistake. I really should not trust everything people say to me by email.
A second before posting it, a little red light did turn on in the back of my mind - That maybe it is a fake, or some other kind of clever trickery at work over here. But then I looked at the subject line which said "Carved Tree in South Africa". So I thought, if someone is already calling it carved, then it probably isn't a fake.

It's not your fault at all S-H so don't worry. The 'tree' was still carved by some great artisans and is still well worth a look.

But now I wonder if it really is carved out of wood, or is it just fabricated fiberglass held together on an internal steel scaffold? I have seen a lot of rockerys both with and without an artificial waterfall (which by the way looks even better then the real thing) built in parks that way.
Another great point which Marlingardener raised was that how could it be carved without damaging the cadmium layer?
So how I guess we have our answer, it's a fake - But still a very beautiful fake...
