I LOVE AUTUMN!! However, we didn't have much of one this year :-? I bought 3 bags of tulip bulbs with every intention of planting them. Snow came, lots of snow, and my bulbs are still sitting in the garage I don't know what to do with them. Don't think I can get them planted under all that white stuff. I'm afraid they will rot. Is there a way to store them for next fall?? moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
I believe that the best way to store them is in a big pot, nicely planted up. Leave the pot outside during winter and you'll probably have tulips come spring/summer.
And remember you can plant Tulips right up to the end of theyear, when and if the soil allows it. Sadly the chances of them surviving until next year are remote. Even unplanted they will begin to grow eventually. As suggested the best thing to do is to plant them in a pot. We tend to do this with all bulbs and plant out in growth when we can see where there are gaps which need filling.
We managed to plant 120 tulip bulbs today!!! The weather has been really odd!! Today it must have been close to 60 degrees :-D the snow is almost completely gone and we were able to get dirt from the garden mulch/compost pile. I say we, Poor Bret did all the work I got 4 BIG pots of black, pink and yellow tulip bulbs!! If they turn out half as pretty as I'm expecting I'll post photos
That should be beautiful in the spring. I tried that one year in 2 cedar pots outside and all of them went to mush. I will be anxious to see if yours make it and I will try it again if they do.
