I'm planning out our spring/summer vegetable garden, and have room to try a couple of new things. We've never grown sweet corn before, so I need your advice on the variety you like, and why. I'm not picky about super-sweet, bi-color, height, or heirloom. I just want some good sweet corn out of the garden!
Also, we planted Swiss chard for the first time this year (Fordhook Giant) and were satisfied with it. However, I have the feeling there are better varieties out there, perhaps with less stem and more leaf. We tried Bright Lights which is pretty, but died out on us mid-summer, while the Fordhook is still producing now in December (much to my husband's chagrin, "I can only eat so much greens!").
I'd appreciate your advice on the varieties you've grown and liked, and why you like them. We are in Central Texas, zone 8b, on blackland prairie soil with lots of compost and rotted steer manure added to the gardens.
