|
Maybe I'm weird (maybe?  ) but I enjoy cooking. The grocery checker mentioned I certainly had a lot of flour (it was on sale) and I said I baked lots bread for fun. She looked at me a bit askance.
Does anyone else go to the kitchen for fun? Is there really such a thing as "recreational cooking?" Do I need to get out more?

I don't really enjoy cooking as such but I do love to make home-made sweets and chocolates in the kitchen. I think now that my husband and I are on our own the incentive to cook just isn't the same.

I like to bake this time of year ... pies, cookies, breads etc. But when it's gardening season I prefer to stay out of the kitchen.

No you are not weird Marlingardener  I too enjoy cooking off and on and Becky can spent the entire day baking in the kitchen. My youngest daughter is training to be a chef and when I asked her why she wants to be a chef, she said she enjoy playing in the kitchen. So there is nothing weird about enjoying baking or cooking

The only recreational cooking I am familiar with is making S'mores over a camp fire.
I have never really enjoyed cooking, but have enjoyed baking over the years. Now I find that the only 'fun' thing to go to the kitchen for is a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream and a spoon.

There is nothing strange about that, I love to cook and will look up recipes and try them out and occasionally they do work out...lol I love to make bread and candies, cakes and cookies but I am more comfortable making savory type dishes and I love to make something new all the time....I say enjoy it and let people wonder....who cares! Enjoy yourself!

You certainly are not on your own!.
Living on my own i tend to eat out quite a lot,both at home and abroad,and when i get a tasty dish someplace i try to replicate it at home,"With bigger portions of course",i do raise a few eyebrows i must admit,however lady friends are most impressed,

All of our family enjoy cooking. Our boys are all very good at it and make their own bread and cook most evening meals at their homes. I enjoy some cooking especially baking. I bake bread in winter when it's cooler. Today I spent the day making cookies with the boy from next door. He likes cooking, too. dooley

I enjoy cooking, although, I don't do much of it. When I do cook though, I can get kind of experimental at times. I try all sorts of flavor combinations. Sometimes they work out great and others not so much. So I do have fun that way and I have come up with some really tasty dishes that way with the oddest ingredients.

I find you strange. *chuckle* I used to enjoy cooking, but then I discovered gardening. Fortunately my husband loves cooking, and he's into recreational cooking as well.

Weird - Yes and no
I used to enjoy cooking, but that was when I lived with my son.
Now hubby does the cooking. I prefer his cooking over mine.
I love eating food.
THe only time I spend in the kitchen is when it is my turn to cook for the family. THis happens for about one week permonth. Each of us gets one week to cook.
I do like trying out exotic dishes from time to time (only when in the mood)
ANd the other time that I spend in the kitchen is when I am baking cake (not cookies). THis happens about 4 times per year.

Both my husband and I like to cook. He will prepare most of our Christmas meal for 25 people! He makes an awesome prime rib!  I would rather bake. I like to eat and I like to feed people This may sound dorky but I think it shows people you love them  I can spend most of the day reading cookbooks or googling recipes. My sister-in-law calls me "Betty Crocker"

I love to cook and usually wind up in the kitchen if I get bored. A friend brought us a wild turkey from his hunting trip and I am going to cook it tomorrow for Christmas dinner. Never cooked one before but I am giving it a shot. Keep your fingers crossed.

Mart,
You may want to put some fat (lard, butter, margarine) under the skin of your wild turkey. The wild ones tend to have less fat than the domestic/market turkeys and can be a trifle dry. They also have more flavor, so I envy you your wild turkey! Have a lovely Christmas dinner!
