No . Not even in the compost unless you know what kind they are .They can be poison .
We have portabellas and whites come up and I pluck them out and dispose of them. Out plant grows them but they are sterlized spores put into the beds after the compost is heated to a very high temp. and then cooled down before spawning.

Glendann thank you for the info. I wont eat or put in compost. I don't know what kind they are. I wont smoke them either Arrow (just kidding around). Few years back someone told me people would go in cow pastures to pick mushrooms to smoke, or was it eat them to get high.

I won't touch a wild mushroom with my least favourite barge pole unless I knew for certain that it was ok. I, as gnome, enjoy sitting on them though.

Those are the same kind that were coming up in my yard. I just stepped on them and mowed them over.

Now up the lane, theres a large area of them and they grew into a Fairy Circle, When mushrooms grow into a circle. Pretty cool to look at. The one at the airport is large enough for me to lay in.

Every year I get a Fairy Circle in the back yard that sprouts Giant Puff-Ball mushrooms. Had 42 last year. Edible, but not very palatable. Has the texture of marshmallows with the taste of a fresh mushroom...even sauteed with onions and garlic didn't help.

They're kind of cute, I think. Smile

We have so much moisture we get them all the time in the winter here - you can tell when it's autumn because the mushrooms start showing up, popping up overnight in lawns and odd places, coming up through the fallen leaves. We just ignore them mostly, kids like to stomp on them... some of the more finicky yard owners will take the time to pick them and toss them out. I have some huge ones that popped up under one of my trees recently, I just left them there to do whatever mushrooms do. *shrug*

Last autumn I went to work my sheepdog at my friend's 80 acre farm. I entered the pasture unobserved by the two trespassers who were apparently picking the special mushrooms that abound in our area. I sent Pete out wide along the edge of the field to gather the approximate 300 head of ewes grazing out of sight at the opposite corner. The two young men heard them running before they saw them. They stood erect and stared and all of a sudden the heads appeared on the horizon. The sheep came on either side and all round them and they still had seen neither me nor Pete. When I blew my long drawn out "LIE DOWN" whistle they jerked around to see me and they looked VERY surprised. Then they realized I was directing a dog and the watched for awhile. On their retreat to their truck they told me they had been frog hunting and also told me I had a good dog. Frogs indeed!

I thought they only grew out of cow manure. I knew some people who used to do that. Crazy.

They grow all over here. Are there perhaps different sorts of psychedelic mushrooms? I would not be one to know.
