Brassicas ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) This evening I transplanted the brassica seedlings into the main bed. I usually have at least 6 extra seedlings as spares just in case some get trampled by birds or destroyed by something. After finishing with the transplanting, I was wondering how should I plant the seedlings in the aquaponics grow beds when it is time to plant. Brassica in aquaponics ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) From what I had read, it takes at least 3 months for the aquaponics bed to mature to support planting, some mentioned 2 months but I am going to say I can't wait So I took one of the brassica seedling and carefully remove all the starting media from it. It was easy to do that by just dipping it into a container of water a couple of times. With the roots exposed, I carefully removed the peebles until deep enough and planted it. Now let's see which will grow better, the traditional way or aquaponics.
Ohhh.....goodie now we get to the root of the project. have you been starting any other candidate plants for the aquaponics project? How about digging up something out of the garden that is already established and washing the soil away from the roots? Jerry
Thanks Bunkie and I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will grow well or else I have to blame it on my impatience Jerry, the waiting is really difficult. I received some lettuce seeds yesterday from my sis-in-law in U.S.A ..... OK I'll germinate them tomorrow and do the AQUAPONICS !!!
After all that work, calculations and getting the system to run properly.....Two/three more months....give the Tilapia a laxative. The lettuce maybe small enough initially to not need a large amount of nutrients. I will keep my fingers crossed. Jerry
