Never, Never buy chicken in a big lump. We found chicken on sale in 20 pound pieces of legs and thighs. We thought we could defrost it with a hair dryer and refreeze it. Nope! Didn't work. We finally put it in a sink of cold water and as it thawed pulled pieces off. When it was small enough to put in a roasting pan it went in the oven. I will freeze it cooked. Some for us and some for Chance. We still have another 20 pound lump. It all came from a farm that is closing down just up the road so that they can build two hundred houses and run us totally out of water. Dooley

I've bought 10# of chicken in bags but they aren't frozen. Usually it is legs and thighs, I boil them, remove the meat from the bones and make soup or chicken salad. I've never seen them frozen.

I've seen lumps like this - I just shoved the whole thing in the refrigerator to slowly thaw until the ice crystals could be rinsed away in the sink to pull it apart. Large hunks can be pried into your crockpot to cook down that way too.

Sorry to hear about the farm - you guys are so scarce on water already, you think it would have to stop someplace. Sigh.

Sounds like a nice kiddy pool would have came in handy, just as long as the neighborhood kids don't pee in it while you're thawing Smile

We had some for supper and it was very good. Chance was happy, too. Now, it will be frozen to be used in barbecue and soup, etc. Dooley
