|
We started harvesting our onions this weekend. We plant 1015s (a sweet white onion that does particularly well here), reds, and yellows. The harvest usually stretches over a couple of weeks. As the tops die down, we pull and hang them in the barn to dry.

There is good air circulation in the barn aisle, and they onions are out of direct light. Our barn smells pretty heady for a couple of weeks, and when the garlic harvest starts, whew!

One of the great things about GS is getting to see the other side of the equation. The first time I see onions are in the marketplace.

What a beautiful onion harvest. They are gorgeous.
I experimented this year with growing onion from seed.
It all worked out. I have about 40 onions. Help I got right here on this forum got me going in the right direction.
Maybe next year my onion harvest will be as worthy and beautiful as yours. Congratulations.

just put some seeds in the ground today - will be my first attempt at onions. I'm trying the "Walla Walla" variety - we'll see how they turn out

Now those are what I call onions! Mine are pathetic this year thanks to the drought. I am to ashamed to even post a piccy. Very envious as I do love growing onions.
