|
I've been watching a batch of caterpillars the last few days. At one point there were 7. Today, I can only spot 2. One of them is still chompin' down on the remainder of the fennel. The other one.... and I swear... just climbed to the top of the light pole. Completely by-passing the passion flower vine. And went straight to the dove's nest!!
Am I that bad of a host that it would run straight into a bird's nest? Or is there some sort of co-existence?

Cheryl, there's one in every family . . . . Think of it as the Darwin effect.

He/she is probably looking for a safe place to pupate. Guess it's not the most intelligent caterpillar though picking the dove's nest to do it in.

I suppose the caterpillar thinks up is better than down. Only birds as predators

I'm still at a loss to why it would climb up a 20-30 foot pole... with a dove nesting at the tippy top!
Guess it's my fault for letting the buffet table run dry.
