Hi there, my name is Richard Cooper and I live in New Paltz, New York.
I was wondering if someone could help me. My daughter and I go to a local farm and pick cherries from the tree every year. this year I saved some cherry pits. I cracked one pit open and found what looks like a small seed. We planted this seed in a flower pot and put it in the sun and kept it moist. Nothing has happend and its been over 3 weeks. We have tried this before with the same results, nothing. Is this the way a cherry tree is started? It would be cool to have our own cherry tree. Thanks for any help.

I'm having to pull up baby cherry trees in my yard all the time - the way they get started is usually from the squirrels or raccoons burying whole cherries. Maybe if you buried the whole thing, pit and all? The fruit acts as the food for the baby plant when it emerges from the pit.

Good luck!
