About halfway home from my work commute, I noticed dark skies in the general direction of home. The closer I got... the more excited I got! Those clouds were right over my little town. Dark, ominous, water-filled clouds with lightning shooting out of them. And "thunder-boomers" (as we called them as kids) rumbling not far behind. As I opened the door of the truck, Sassy Marie (my dog) jumped inside! You see, she's very scared of thunder, fireworks, gun shots, etc. I comforted her and we both made a dash for the front porch as the rain started to pour. The winds got pretty strong. The rain was coming sideways at one point. A few tree branches blew to the ground. My poor little "whirly flower thingy" took flight in different directions. Darn! The chair cushions were still out. Oh well... they needed washing anyhow.
I watched the rain... first from the front door. Then from the back door. Even watched as I washed up the dishes my brother left in the sink last night!
Rain. Glorious rain!
Once it stopped, I went out to check the rain gauge. Almost one-and-a-half inches! That just leaves us about 20 inches to go to reach our average rainfall for the year.
No complaints from me. Any rain these days is much appreciated!
Oh yeah... the weeds.
With all the plants/flowers/trees here, the one plant that caught my attention when the rain ended was a Juncus. I've been meaning to pull it up, but for some reason, I like it. Standing there alone amongst what used to be nothing but Daylilies (now the Crocosmias are trying to take over).

And speaking of the Crocosmias... I do like them. Their blooms remind me of exploding firecrackers. But they are on the verge of becoming weeds... overtaking my Mom's old Daylilies.
But with today's rain, they looked so nice, I might just have to find them a bed of their own!

Hmmm... maybe weeds aren't so bad afterall... well... as long as they are sporting rain drops!

Awesome!!! I am so glad for you that you got some rain. Your pics are nice, also. I love the crocosmais I planted some a long time ago, but I think it was at our old house and we moved before I ever got to see them bloom. I totally forgot about them until you posted your pictures.

yay ! I am glad you got some rain finally. We got several nice thunder showers here also. It felt so good, and I love hearing it on the roof.

I'm the opposite of you Cheryl. I look for sunshine here as most days we have nothing but rain.  Your garden is going to really enjoy the downpour you've had though. It certainly looks pretty with the raindrops on everything.

YeeeHawww, Cheryl got some rain. And the ground soaked it up in seconds being so dry but the plants loved it.

Actually Toni... it made some puddles! Guess because it came down so fast at first... and then a light rain followed.
I almost went out there and stomped around in the puddles like a little kid!

Next time go stomp the puddles and enjoy it while it happens since it is becoming a rare event. It'll make you feel young again. I do it in the back yard where no one can see me.

Hi Cheryl,
lovely reading your post,..and very pleased for you getting some rain,..just laughing to myself trying to picture you jumping in the puddles, .
I also have Crocosmia and found it spreading,..bit by bit i am removing it from the planting area and potting it,..i love the colour of it,..there is a chocolate coloured one over here which i am trying to get bulbs of.
