|
Years ago, I saw on TV a chef who cooked radishes in butter and I tried it and it was so good that my brother-in-law insisted that I grow an entire section of the garden in radishes.
I've been harvesting about 10 cucumbers a day and I was trying to figure out a way to have something different than just salad or soup and I read about people all over the world eating cooked cucumbers and it was really good. I cooked it in butter like summer squash, it was tender but still crisp, looked beautiful, and had a sweet and mellow taste.

Isn't it great when we find new ways of using our veggies? I'm giving tomatoes away here as I've run out of ideas on what to do with them all.

I will have to try the radishes and cucumbers cooked!! I don't care much for radishes so we didn't plant any this year but maybe next year I'll plant some just to try them cooked in butter!! I love cucumber anyway so I'm sure I would love them cooked like squash!! Thanks for the cooking ideas!!

Radishes are great in stirfry. Tomatoes make great jam. DR's grandma used to send it to us. Only once she put in too many cloves. We ate it anyway. Dooley

I have had radish and cucumber in egg rolls and stir fry but never tried it in butter. The tomato jam doesn't sound to interesting either.

wannabe, Grandma Sackett made tomato jam. It really is good. Did you never have it before. Tomatoes are a fruit you know. It is better without cloves though. Dooley

If Grandma Sackett made it I have probably ate it. I know she made chess pie and it wasn't to bad.

I loved watching her cook. She never measured anything. I watched her making egg noodles one day. It was a sight to see. I tried it her way. What a mess I made of it. I'm glad she wasn't there to see it. Mom cooked that way too. Now, I can do some things that way, but mostly I measure things. Dooley

I can make egg noodles without measuring but I will never get the hang of making a cake nor do I do well with bread.
