I lost a few herbs this past winter, due to an early cold snap when the ground was still very wet, I think. This lemon verbena was nothing but a dry stick, but I did not cull it out. About 2 weeks ago, the middle of July, it started sending leaves out from the root base, and now there is enough to start harvesting carefully. So don't give up until its been a whole year.

It is funny how one mans weed is another mans herb. This grows so rampently that as a jobbing gardener, it is up there with the likes of ground elder and bindweed as an invasive weed that is hard to get rid of. I have to weed it out of almost all of the gardens I work in, the only good thing is I smell sweet when weeding it.

I had a Lemon Verbena this spring that I THOUGHT was dead so I put the put outside so I could compost it. Lo and behold, the wet spring and then hot weather got it growing again!

I had a hard time finding lemon verbena plants this year in my area...hopefully better luck next time as I hate to spend money on shipping costs.
