This morning I was watering and pulling weeds and I spotted this spider. When I finished I went and got the camera and took a couple of pictures. His body is about two inches and he has long legs. He had the neatest web. It was very intricate and had that variation of white in it. I didn't seen him after the rain but he was probably hiding under a pot. I forgot about his web and pulled out the weeds so he'll have to make another web somewhere else.

I never thought I'd hear myself say it but that spider is really lovely. The colouring immediately made me think of the markings on Siamese cats!! Yeah I know I'm a strange one.

I think I could beat you hands down when it comes to having BIG spiders in the garden. Here in the tropics we get some almighty huge ones. You should see the Nephila species. I'll have to post a photo!

We also get some of the Argiope species here too. We commonly call them 'St. Andrew's Cross' spiders. The one we get around here is usually Argiope keyserlingi. I just love the cross pattern they make on their webs.

What an interesting-looking spider. I wish that I had a couple. They are as pretty as the flowers, themselves.

I was worried about that spider after the rain and I pulled the weeds with his web but today I saw that he had made a new web in the Confederate Jasmine. Since I have no plans to pull it he's probably picked a good spot this time.
He looked a little funny so I leaned in to see and he had one of those giant grasshoppers in his mouth. It stuck out both sides quite a lot. We've had grasshoppers three or more inches this summer. I covered our little fig tree with netting today because the grasshoppers had eaten all of it's leaves. It has new buds but I don't want the grasshoppers eating those too.
If he eats grasshoppers, he can stay as long as he wants.

That is a good size spider...it grossed me out the other night when I walked in between my arborvitaes and right through a spider web....all over my face and hair..YUCK! I do like spiders but not on me.
