When is the best time to plant grass seed in the shade? The grass is very thin under our trees in the back yard. We bought seed but don't know if I should plant it now or wait until spring.

I, myself, would plant it now to give it a chance to develop a root system before frost, but I think you are closer to frost than we our. We don't get frost until late October or early November. You, maybe only have six or eight weeks. Don't know. Dooley

What kind of seed did you buy. My lawn is bare under the trees in front, but I think that is bc DH put Nibblers run there.

I guess my question was a waste of time. I went looking for the seed tonight - my husband told me he had planted it two weeks ago. He doesn't usually do much in the yard so I was surprised when I couldn't find the seed. Thanks for your help anyway.
