I noticed yesterday something new with the lettuce plants and need info on whats going on with the plant.
Its getting cooler here at night but they say its going to warm up this weekend.
I figure if the temp gets around 36 degrees here at night I'll bring the babies in so they don't die.
Keep warm

Ed, it looks as if they are bolting (going to seed). How old are the plants? Lettuces have a life span, and when they reach the end of it they try to set seed. It won't prolong their lives to cut off the seed pods, unfortunately.
The cool evenings won't hurt the lettuce, which is a cool season crop. However, warmer daytime temps will cause lettuce to set seed and finish its life cycle.

Like MG said,, you cannot keep them beyond their natural life span. Most vegetables are like that. You should pull those and plant new seeds. That is the reason you stagger plantings of some things,,keeps your supply going.
