I have heard that saving seeds from an especially hearty plant (in this case tomato) works well over one winter. I recently found the seeds from my Grandfather's prize tomato plants that I saved in 2001. Does anyone have experience with this? The seeds were kept dry and don't look completely withered. I have had some luck with two and three year old seeds, not sure about 6. I am hoping to get a plant or two and keep the seeds from those for the next season.

I have some of my dad's heirloom seeds, some of them still germinate. It doesn't hurt to try. I mean what else are you going to do with them.

Doesn't hurt to try a few to see if they'll germinate. Put two seeds in a folded paper towel moistened with warm water, place in a ziplock bag, and set in a warm window. Check in 10 days. If you've got sprouts, you've got good seed.
