My sugar Maple.
I planted this tree when we had our house built and that was 30 years ago. It was only as big as my thumb then and about 5 ft. tall. Now it is about 40 ft. tall.
Falling leaves from the Burr Oak.
Winter heat!
I have 4 1/2 cord of wood in the shed and a 1/2 cord behind the shed. I have about another cord yet to split. Last year I had about 6 cord put up and had a cord and a half left over. So I should have plenty this year.

There are a lot of BTUs in those cords of wood Captain. You should be plenty warm this year. Your tree is a nice specimen. Being a sugar maple, are there touches of red in the leaves?

There are touches of red but mostly orange. By the time the leaves are at peak, it will be a bright orange. I will try to get a pic of it when it is at peak color if we have a sunny day.

Capt, Thanks for the wood quantity info. I thought we were crazy trying to get 6 cords of wood split for the winter. We have never really measured every stack of wood, sometimes we split and stack after we start burning, also. So it makes it hard to get an accurate count. I am glad you mentioned that. thanks.

Carolyn, my shed is 8ft long and 10 10 ft wide. A cord of wood measures 4 ft by 4 ft by 8 ft long. So a single row 6 ft tall and 10 ft long works out to right at a cord. Makes it a lot easier to figure out how much wood I have. I also have 6 50 lb. bags of wood scraps from the shop that I will start out with. Hopefully I won't do any serious burning until late Dec.

What an attractive wood shed! That is a very pretty tree, I can't wait to see it in full color

Have you ever made maple syrup from the sugar maple?

Have never made maple sugar or syrup from it. But I used to when I was a kid from trees in the woods.
