Hi Folks, Toni has a plant up but this is not it. It has leaves like hers but is 6 foot tall with little spikes of flowers up the same stalk.

Anyone know what it is? I have had garden centers try to id this plant and they couldn't.

Barb, Is this plant a deciduous shrub, herbaceous perennial an annual?
It reminds me of an oakleaf hydrangea. did you purchase this or is it a volunteer plant?

    Please identify this plant?

carolyn, You know I don't know where it came from. All of a sudden it was there. When we go out nursery shopping we get so many things we can't remember where we get things. It's beautiful but every garden center we ask, they don't know what it it.

It's a perennial and has been there for at least 2 years. Seems to flower at the end of a stalk like a grass but is not a grass. Large clusters of flowers like large lilac but not lilac. No smell and yellowish white color.

Wow, Netty! I haven't ever seen this before. I take it that this plant is invasive?

Well. That's wonderful and scary. LOL. Thank you! Now I have learned it loves full sun and is invasive as all get out. Well, I know that.

I have 2 special places for this, Way back on the back of our property where the neighbor doesn't mow. We would sneak it into the middle of his property. LOL OR, another place where it would be a back drop with chairs on a patio area that we can use a liquid weed control to keep it in check and mow it down on the back side.

Either way it can't stay where it is. I know it before you ID'd it.

Where in the world would I have gotten this thing???? Where is it a native to????

Oh I have learned that it will self seed very well. OH OH!!! I am in trouble. LOL

Will dig that thing out in the morning. I don't want it in my front garden anymore.

Thanks Netty. I have been trying to learn about this plant for over a year.

Barb, it is not a bad plant, really. It does creep by underground runners, but is not terribly difficult to control. The one thing I have noticed is its scent...you wouldn't want it near a seating area. It smells kind of cabbage- like.

Netty, Wow thanks. I didn't smell anything like that even when it bloomed.

Is this plant something I would have bought at a garden center here in Pa ???

Possibly Barb. I don't think I've ever seen it in garden centers here. Anytime I have seen it has been in heritage gardens-including the piece that ended up in my garden :D

I saw that photo, and knew right away it is Plume Poppy. I have a customer with a huge flower bed, and the Plume poppies are all over it. Right now, in the fall, I spend a lot of time cutting them down. It's a job! They are so big. I think they only look good for a brief time during the season.
She loves em, but if it was up to me, I would get rid of them.

I just took about 10 baby plants and potted them into the greenhouse for the winter. Guess I have to keep them at bay that way. No problem. I have a Contorted Willow that I only allow to grow to about 4 feet and many others that I control the growth on.

If anyone would like some of this pretty plant let me know. I have potted it up quite a while ago and am giving it away. Plus I have been pulling it out in the garden and throwing it over to my neighbors empty overgrown lot.

Made me laugh... the plume Poppies in my customers garden have gone crazy this year! She said she doesn't mind them... however... while I was working in her big garden one recent afternoon... I yanked a bunch of the little ones OUT. (when she was not looking) HaHa
If I didn't, they will just take over!
