I'm having trouble identifying a pink wispy plant that has small, pink flowers. The local experts are no help. I haven't seen any like this anywhere. This is someone's house in my neighborhood, so I haven't been able to get real close yet to examine the stem or any foliage. Thank you for any help you can provide. -Ryan a picture of another one, good contrast to see body ( photo / image / picture from mccubbin's Garden ) thin pink plant in the middle? It looks like a grass type called, "Panicum". There are a couple of pinkish species. Good luck with ID'ing the plants.
I found this one that may be the grass you're looking for. Muhlenbergia capillaris Regal Mist/ Regal Mist Gulf Coast Muhly Grass Can reach 3' x 3' wide, "Regal Mist" becomes a spectacular haze of dusky pink in the fall, when it blooms. Well suited for garden use along the California coast (except in areas with regular morning fog) and throughout the warmer areas of the intermountain west. Adapted to a wide range of soil types in well-drained situations. Irrigation in late summer encourages heavier flowering. Growing Zones 7 - 10 Color Fall Color, Pink Regions Coastal California, USA Bloom Time Summer, Early Fall Sun Full and Afternoon Sun Soil Average Garden Soil, Clay Soil, Sandy Garden Soil Height Large - 36in. to 5ft. Resists Deer Plant a cluster of these big beauties with the afternoon light behind them for maximum effect.
Eileen is right, it is pink Mulhy. It should be available at a native nursery. Here in central Texas it reseeds itself fairly easily (ours took two years to do so but we started with one plant and now have three). It looks great planted with Gulf Coast Muhly.
I found the homeowner outside putting up Christmas lights this afternoon and stopped by. He had a list of all of the plants in that particular bed. The name of the plant is a Gaura plant. Google tells me there are two of them- a pink variety known as "Siskiyou Pink" and a white variety known as "Whirling Butterflies". They have a woody trunk...and this particular specimen had pink shoots...which not many of the internet pictures you find show...but that's it. Thanks to all who helped. I sincerely appreciate it. Below is a google image of the pink variety. Happy Gardening! -Ryan
Gaura lindheimeri 'Ballerina Rose' (Gaura, Whirling Butterflies, Wand Flower) Okay, from a distance it didn't look like the Gaura. Glad you got the correct name for it.
Glad you found out the ID... but now I have a problem. I jotted down Mulhy on my wish list. Now, do I take it off, or just add this other beauty? :-D
