|
I make two wreaths every year, one for us and one for our neighbours. It all started as a sort of prank some years ago (I think at least ten years ago ) when I had lots of greenery left over from our own wreath, an extra staw base and too much creativity to keep in check. So I made a wreath, snuck over to our neighbours and hung it on their door. Their door opens inwards and the wreath was big so they got a scare before they realized it was a harmless decoration.
The wreath was returned to me after the holidays, complete with decor and dried-up greenery, and the neighbour lady thanked me for letting them borrow it, so I just kept on lending it to them every year after. Now it's a tradition. They know they're going to find a wreath on their door but they don't know when and it always gives them a scare when they open their front door. I'm probably slightly evil but I find it funny.
This year's neighbours' wreath:

And this is our wreath. Pingu the Penguin is 12-14 years old and a bit weather worn but he'll keep greeting our visitors for as long as he can hold together:

Both are gorgeous! What lucky neighbors you have. And so glad they have a sense of humor!

Droopy you have a heart made out of pure gold!! What a lovely thing to do for your neighbours. I wouldn't mind in the least getting a slight scare - I'd consider it more than worth it for that lovely hand-made wreath.

Thanks all for liking my wreaths. I have fun making them, and it's nice that others like them too. A friend of mine usually comes over and makes hers here. We have gløgg and pfeffernussen, put on some Christmas music and make an evening of it.

Gee, I wish you were our neighbor! My wreath is pretty poor compared to the ones you make. However, the winery down the road has glogg (they are Swedish) and I have a recipe for pfefferneusse, so I can do at least some of your Christmas tradition.

Droopy- The wreaths are so wonderful! I love that first one so much!
I can only wish I was as creative as you. Mine has a red bow on it....

Thanks for your kind words. MG, I do hope you'll take time to enjoy some gløgg and pfeffernüsse. If you like, you can add red wine to the gløgg. We usually drink it hot but I suspect you Texans would like it cold.
Kay, I'm not very creative but I have a florist in the close family and managed to pick up some tricks from her. The thuja is in our garden and the variegated holly's in my mother's garden. All I do is cut and bind them on a straw base and I usually re-use the decor from last year. I personally think that a green wreath with a red bow is festive too.
Sjoerd, I'd love to, but the airports are chaotic because of ice at the moment so I won't be able to travel for a couple of days.
