Has anyone ever held a plant sale, and if so how did you do? I have lots of stuff that is multiplying rapidly and thought I would pot some up and sell it. I already have some mums rooted and potted up in bigger pots also some Mexican Petunia, and Gardenia. Some of the daylilies need dividing, I have hidden lily ginger and walking irises plus more. I really want some bedding mix for a new bed and I thought this would be a good way to offset the expense. Any input or opinions would be helpful.

I've only ever sold plants at a country fayre Sharon but they went like hot cakes!!  Good luck with selling yours and I hope you get enough money for your bedding mix.

What plants did you sell Eileen. I think in the spring I will also start some veggies to sell, it is too late for that now.

Yes, our master gardener group holds a plant sale each spring, and each fall. Perennials, especially hostas sold very well. Divide and pot up the plants you want to sell at least 2 weeks prior to the sale so they look good for the sale. You don't want droopy plants from transplant shock at your sale.

They were mainly plants I'd grown from seed - poppies, wild flowers etc. Veggies do really well at plant sales too. Over here tomato plants, peppers and lettuce seem to be the best sellers.

Thanks for the advice ladies. I got a couple of more things potted today and maybe this afternoon I can do some more. I want to wait till it cools off a bit before I have the sale, and I will also include some of my totems for sale.

Cajunbelle,some states say you must have a license to sell plants .Call the city are county and ask first .I know Color Spot in Huntsville can only distrubute plants wholesale as they don't have a license to sell them.I wouldn't wont you in trouble for doing such a little thing as this.You might have a garage sale and put them in there I'm not sure .

Thanks Glendann, I didn't realize that. I will check first. I was really planning on doing the GS thing with the plants in it. As far as I know it is legal here bc I see quite a few plant sale signs around.

Oh Sharon I wish I lived closer! I'd love to go to your plant sale! Our Farmer's Market has a few stands selling potted plants along with fresh vegetables. My husband and I bought some raspberry bushes there a few years ago. My little old neighbor lady sells plants at her annual garage sale. I think they are the first thing to go! Good Luck!
