Good day for outside

Today was a good day for being outside. I started out with a sweatshirt on but soon got shed of it. I took all the little peat pots out and filled them with a starting mix. I have herbs to start. About 10 paks. Since I have 50 little pots, that makes five pots of each except some say to plant directly into the ground.
Then, dr got my other bed put together. It's 4 ft by 16 ft. So, I started digging it. It was full of roots and more roots and we had to dig deeper than I'd planned and use the loppers on some of them. It took us a couple of hours to get it dug up. Then, we went and had a sandwich. Then, took the garden rake and raked it good, getting all the smaller roots and grass and weed clumps out of it. dr added the bags of top soil and compost but he says we still need about three more bags. I'm not exactly sure what will go into those beds yet though. Tomorrow, I want to plant the other peas out back. I'm hoping to see the others come up first but they haven't yet. Hopefully all that rain on Wednesday will help that along if they didn't all wash somewhere else. It's supposed to be in the 70's all week so maybe that will help. Tomorrow, I'm going to start digging where I want herbs to grow so tonight I want to get out my herb books and see what it says about what to plant with what and what not to put with others. It said to put the herbs on a south facing wall so they'll go in the front. I'm going to start along the house and maybe scallop the front of the bed. I, also, want to dig a small bed for flowers along side the front deck and steps. How long it takes depends on the number of roots that we find. Hopefully not long but it's still early to plant herbs outside anyway. It's just nice to be outside and at our age things seem to take longer and other things seem to get in the way of it.

I have never planted anything there, Jerry. Two years ago in April we moved here from the top of the hill. That was an 8 room house and we wanted something smaller. Our landlord was living in this mobile home out by Midway. They cleared this land and land for a doublewide for her and her husband. They just had an endloader come and go over the top of the ground and push all of the trees and brush into a big pile which they burned. Then, they installed septic and water and had electric put in for both places. Then, they moved in another mobile for her father. So, all three places have roots and stumps which we have been working on since. In the back it isn't so bad as it was a clear area except for some small stuff. Last year I had my garden in the back and will still use that spot this year. But, in the front I have and 8x8 sort of raised bed and now the 4 x 16 bed. I also have some circular beds with lettuce in them.
