No, mine isn't really that old, but before winter sets in, I am having the gas central heating and gas fire all serviced. Thank goodness I have an insurance policy which allows everything to be serviced once a year. In our last cottage we had oil heating, and it packed up in the midst of winter when our daughter was still not a year old. What a carry on!!
I hate thinking about winter, but you know, when I opened the curtains at 6am this morning, it looked like a frost had settled on the cars!!

Winter's close and judging by the way weather has a habit of reaching extremes these last few years then I would fully expect a COLD one!

There was a definate nip in the air here last night too EJ and we had to turn the heating on for the first time in ages.
I have a service contract for my central heating and I certainly wouldn't be without it. MUCH better than have problems with your boiler which could be a tad expensive.

Well the chap arrived at around 4pm, and did a very thorough job. We have extended the contract to cover our gas fire - which I loathe - but we are in a modern house, and we can't afford to change it, so we live with it. Have the gas maintained is very important to my family as when I was young, living at home, our boiler sprung a leak and filled our house with carbon monoxide. This happened at dawn, and I awoke in a pool of vomit, mum the same, and my sister was incredibly ill. We all suffered terribly from the poison, and it frightened us all, so now, with the urchins in the house, I like to make sure everything is as it should be, and it was. HOORAH!

Thank goodness you all woke up EJ!!!!! I hope none of you suffered any lasting after effects of the poisoning.
Our boiler burst and flooded our living room on the morning I brought our daughter home from hospital with a full leg cast on after major surgery. NOT what we needed I can tell you. Now the yearly check and the cover I have makes sure our radiators, gas fire and boiler are all in tip top conition. As you say HOORAH!!!!

Thank heavens you awoke when you did EJ. Easy to understand how you are paranoid about that stuff now.
