It started to rain a while ago and this little frog decided to come out and search the patio for worms. I didn't know, until I put the photograph on to my computer, that frogs had blue eyes in the dark!!!

I'm sure this is the same as the red eye effect when photographing humans. Most probably there is something in the back of the frog's eye which produces the blue colour when the flash goes off. Funky pic Eils

Yes Jan they sure do.  This one pulled a worm from between the slabs on the patio just before I rushed in to get my camera!!! By the time I'd switched it on the worm had gone.

Oh I love frogs!!! When I was young my Mama would always say "Julie Ann you better put that frog down or you will get warts!!" I still wonder about that. How can a frog cause warts? They can't can they?

Eileen ,I think that little frog is a Leopard Frog.
I have them in my yard boy can they leap.I do love frogs.

Sorry Glenda but 'my' frog is nothing more than a good, old, common Britsh Frog (Rana temporaria) they just have different colour variations on their skins depending on what their surroundings are like.
Here's a piccie of a Leopard frog (Rana pipiens) as a comparison. Very similar in a lot of ways I must admit.
Julie it's supposed to be toads that give you warts because they have a 'warty' skin themselves. However, all the 'warts' actually do is secrete a rather nasty fluid to stop preditors eating the toads.
Witches were supposed to use toads as their to curse people who had offended them. They would squeeze some of the skin secretion into drinks etc and the person was then supposed to erupt with warts all over their faces - charming!!!!

I'll second that. Took a look at the site - interesting critter and suitably named. I doubt I could manage to keep something I had to feed mice to, though...

Yes, the pacman frog is aptly named. It's 90% mouth - funny looking thing. Not much of a pet though. Just sits in one place for days and mostly moves blindingly fast only when it is hungry and catching some prey (whether small mice or crickets).
