when can I take cuttings from a rose bush? how should I cut them? and how do you get them to root should I use a rooting hormone or just stick them in the ground and pray ? lol I have a large rose bush that was already here and it has bloomed very heavily this year but would like to get some cuttings and start some more from it

donna--We need Philip Nulty to answer this one. He is the king of roses & rose propagation. I tried last year to propagate by layering, but it didn't take. You know who else might know is Calin.

Jane (Marlingardener) is a rose propagation guru too. She helped me get a cutting rooted over the winter.

On the lazy way of doing it, when I was trimming back the Blaze climbing rose in March I took two of the long pieces and just stuck them in a pot of dirt outside and put the pot in a partially shaded spot. One of the pieces died but the other one has taken root and is growing nicely. Still in the pot until I can figure out where to plant it permanently.

Toni---Wow. I will try that. What do I have to lose? I have a landscape rose that I love and have been wanting to have more of them. Can't find them in the stores, plus I would rather not spend the $. I will try what you suggest.
