I have been keeping my darling busy over this last week. I wanted a new planter for the conservatory as it was becoming cluttered with plants in various sized pots. So here is what we did!

Framework going in.

Front of trough being screwed on, with about 8 trillion screws!!

Bamboo cladding attached to the front of the trough for a more naturalistic look.

First in was a thick layer of newspaper, followed by double thick builders plastic sheeting, then a good three inch layer of course gravel to stop the compost becoming waterlogged.

Here is me! Let the planting begin!

My darling with our Strelizia

And the finished effect.

We are going to build one similar on the opposite shorter wall. This will be a cactus planter as I have so many succulents now, they could all do with their own home. All that leaves me with are a couple of climbers, 7 orchids and a couple of palms.

I am thrilled to bits with how it looks, and it has given us so much more room!

The planted came out beautiful. The bamboo is perfect for a tropical planter.

Did you give hubby a big hug and a cold brew for all his hard and good work?

Amazing transformation if you compare the first and last photos. Great work by both of you. And you made it sound so effortless Wink Thanks for posting EJ.

Hey EJ how about sending Mark my way?!!! Mind you before he built me a planter like yours he'd have to build me a conservatory first!!! Laughing Laughing

Seriously though I'm really green with envy - your planter looks fantastic now that all the plants are in it. What I couldn't do with a planter or two like that. SIGH.

Wow, and I was jealous just reading the WORD conservatory! What a lovely addition, you need to build a tiny breakfast table & chairs to go next to it! Wink

Spongebob is way popular over here. Our children (and Mark) love him and on the Nick channel, he is on almost all the time! (I have to confess to having a weakness for Patrick Wink)

Thanks for all of your kind words out the makeover. I am thrilled and all of the plants seemed to have settled in. I am waiting for him to recover from this nasty cold before giving him a gentle prod in the direction of the cacti in the conservatory! Smile

I have a warm little dream of adding a small conservatory to our house some day,
yours is magnificent, it really is a little piece of heaven on earth!

What a great job your hubby did, he's a gem. Mr. Green
