I was thrilled and surprised to go to my garden yesterday and see this little friend.

He is a male (the females are brown) Eastern Tailed Blue. They are a beautiful little animated butterfly. I was thrilled when he opened his wings.

I grow lots of his food plant, vetches and clovers.

I had never seen this tiny, one inch from wingtip to wingtip, fellow up so close and personal.

Beautiful Bethie. Flying works of art. I like the colours its wings are projecting in the last photo, like the colours you see when oil is on the surface of water.

Smashing photographs Bethie - especially the third and fourth ones. Mr. Green I take it that the orange on the wings is to deter preditors and make them think that the markings are actually the eyes of the butterfly?
