As I was looking out the window today, my eye was drawn to the Heucheras out there. The foliage stays over winter. It won't look as nice as they do in the growing season, but I think it's nice to have some color in the garden.
Wish they were buried in snow, but they aren't... not yet...So here is a splash of Nebraska winter color:

    Hiya kay,

I enjoyed seeing your huchera collection with their winter plumage display. They look healthy. I reckon that they will survive the winter, don't you?

I only have one sort and it is the Caramel. It is light hreen--much lighter than yours. They didn't bloom at all this year. I wonder what is going on there. hmmmmm.

Anmyway, yours look great. Hope that you and yours will have a happy christmas.

Hi there Sjoerd! My Caramels do look darker than they are in the summer. A lot of my Heuchs are a dark purply color now. They aren't trying to show off :) They are very hardy here, I just trim the old, dead foliage off in early spring, and they're good to go. Geesh! Winter is just beginning, and I'm already anxious for spring. Does that mean it's gonna be a long winter? Hope not!!

I don't know if it means there will be a long winter or not...but I have the same longing for spring already. Oh dear......

BTW--do you ever fertilize your Heuch's?

I love your heucheras.I only have some purplish ones.My fav is Obsidium which seems very tough.
Do you think they are drought resistant? I think your climate is similar to mine.

Sjoerd- I don't think I ever have fertilized them. I may have used the root stimulator at planting time on some of them.

SewNsow- Yes, they are very drought tolerant, I can attest to that after this past season!!!

Thanks for the compliment Carolyn! :stew1:

Isn't it lovely when we find a little treasure trove in the garden - especially in winter? Your heucheras are really lovely Kay and such a great collection of species too. :-D

Thank you very much Eileen! It certainly is nice to have a bit of color during this drab, dormant time. I have quite a large collection of these plants, not all of them look pretty, and lots of them are hidden under the pine needles. I wish they could be hidden under some snow!
