I have Windows 7 Ultra but I know someone who got Windows 8. It was designed to work for tablets and laptops and stuff but it works okay on desktops too. She didn't like that Windows 8 didn't have the start button but she found a way to get it back and she really likes it. Good luck with yours.

I am a puter guru to many, many seniors in chat rooms,I work on PC's via remote and I keep up with all the tech news, fact: PC sales are down 14% do to W8 and most ppl hate it. Fact#2 MS is aware of many problems, and are working on a redo, fix, upgrade whatever you choose to call it, they do not need another Vista fiasco, and W8 is on the verge. You can still find new W7 PC's, I don't need one, I have 4 one is XP the others W7 and I love them all. I also have Andriod tablet.

The drivers were probably updated. Maybe it's time for a new modem.

If you liked Windows XP you're probably going to hate Windows 8. That's because it is designed like a mobile operating system, for example a tablet or phone. That is unless you like that style of operating system. Personally, it's just not right for a desktop environment, and Windows 7 is faster.

XP was a great operating system and many people refused to switch to Windows Vista. I can't blame them, Vista was crap. Windows 7 really took the cake and it's the go to operating system for most computer nerds, who don't go with Linux. As far as versions go Professional is typically better than Ultimate, in the case of XP, Vista, and 7. This is because Pro. includes stuff you need and will use. Ultimate is just loaded with bloatware.

By the way, I am a computer nerd/geek.

If you don't like the look of Windows 8, you can make it look like Windows 7 or even Windows XP. Here's a search that will help.

One of the bad things about Windows 8 is the lack of support for older peripherals. Some printers and scanners may no longer work, and new drivers may not be available.
