Hello everyone ! I was wondering, How can I seperate my carnations, They are beautiful but they have went crazy, They have took over my med. size round flowerbed. They have big stalks at the bottom, I was thinking maybe I could cut the stalk at the bottom and put in water or dirt, I don't know, I know better than thinking it always gets me in trouble!! LOL I do know I need to size down or I'm not going to see my pretty little round garden all summer. Please Help!!
    :-? :'( Thank you all.

Divide them pretty much the way you would other plants. Dig up the clump then gently tease it into smaller segments with your hands. Replant them, water well and they are set.

Here is what I would do....

Take a shovel and dig around the whole thing where you want to split it. Then I would take my very very special bread knife and just cut the whole root the size you want to take.

My hubby ways I am really going to kill something doing what I do but I way, almost all plants have a great will to live and you or any other animal that cuts, eats, or walks on them will not stop that great will.
