I have a young Satsuma tree that produced for the first time this year I have a two part question, first when should I fertilize it and what is the best type of fertilizer and is there is anything else I should do prune etc

I don't actually grow citrus fruits Richard but I treat my fruit trees just like my tomato plants. I start to feed them when the flower buds first appear and continue to do so until the fruit ripens.
After the fruit has been picked then I stop fertilizing and prune them back before the frosts. I can't recommend a fertilizer but I think there may be a specific one just for citrus fruit.

If I remember correctly Satsumas can tolerate cold easier than most other citrus fruits.
