My Hosta fever continues ... I bought 3 more on clearance this weekend! ( photo / image / picture from Netty's Garden ) I got 'Sagae', 'Sun Power' and 'Earth Angel". Now WHERE will I squeeze them in?
I really like that sun power. I'll give you a couple of years and see if you want to trade for some king tut, or....hum, do I really have any room? Great score.
Oh yay! I love hostas. What a great find, Netty! I've been seriously thinking about putting a bunch of them in one of the back garden areas that used to be beds as far as I can tell. They're overgrown with weeds and the lawn guy just trims them down every time he comes so they almost look like part of the lawn now. But they'd be a great place for hostas, and if the plants are going on sale now.....hmmmmmmm.
Also a great Hosta fan and have a number both species and named varieties - love them all but one of most favourite is Frances Williams - this if you do not know it has large blue green leaves with yellow edges. Grow them in ground and containers.
SS--I think we both posted at the same time!! Your hostas are beautiful beautiful beautiful! What kind is the pale green one in the last photo? I love it juxtaposed with the iris behind it. Great foliage contrast. The light coming through the iris foliage is great too.
Hi. I have always found them tough as anything whether in the ground or a container. I live in not the coldest County in England but we do get frosts down to -5 or 6 though usually a little less. I take no special precautions with them just leave them outdoors - never lost a Hosta whatever. What we do get here though are problems (quite severe in a particularly damp season) with slugs and snails and growing them in a container helps those plants. My main reason for growing some of them thus is to enable me to move them around and also to position them on paving etc. This corner of England where I live (have always lived) is the driest so watering is important - off the bungalow, garage and shed I have nine large 210 litre water butts set up.
