I want to buy this chair and I wondered what kind of upholstery / cushion would look good with it? Any suggestions?

I'll have to answer your question with a couple of my own first. Where will the chair reside? What colors/styles predominate there?

I love the look of the chair, just btw!

Yes, I love the chair too.
I want to put the chair in my family room. I have a couch there which has legs similar to this chair. The couch has micro fiber upholstery in beige. The furniture in the family room are all the same color of wood. The focal point of the room is a thick wooden frame mirror on top of the fireplace and a big Red/orange painting hanging on the wall over the couch.

Tina you can buy long lounger cushions with ties that would look good on this type of chair. That way you could take it off to wash it whenever you wished. You could also easily change the colour scheme if you got tired of it or moved the chair somewhere else.

You could perhaps think of going along the lines of the colours in the painting which should tie in nicely.

To be honest I love the chair the way it looks although I appreciate that it may not be the most comfortable item to sit on without a little cushioning.

If you are going to cover it please go with Eileen's suggestion of a "temporary" cushioned cover. That way if you want to get back to the bare wood again it is easy to do.

I think doing any sort of permanent upholstery would fundamentally change the design of the chair and turn it into something else.

I always prefer leather sofa as it doesn’t get sagged and stretched as other stuffs. I love such stuffs which maintain its freshness for long. And also it seems to be a fine fabric for pets and kids. That’s why I go behind leather for my sofas and furniture even if its costly. I bought leather furnitures from...Company Name removed... and it has been 8 years later and it is still good.

I very bohemian in my style, which may not be to your liking. I would go with a wool tapestry rug or a cow hide to upholstery it with. eBay is my friend and for the same price as upholstery I have purchased both for recovering chairs, ottomans and cushions.
