I took a macro photo of the wasp on a windowsill. I cropped out just the wasp, shrank it to 1024x768, then to 800x600. At each step I adjusted the sharpness of the picture. Then I used Photostudio to convert it from color to 8-bit grey scale. I adjusted the brightness down about 10%, the contrast up about 20%, until I had a near perfect silhouette (except for the wings).
