I am looking for a good basic book on growing roses. One that isn't too expensive. My mother in law is looking for a Christmas gift idea for me and this would be a welcome gift.

Hi Polly, Here are a few books all about roses that you might consider suitable. Sorry I don't know the prices offhand but maybe they'll be for sale from http://www.Amazon.com/

American Rose Society Encyclopedia of Roses by Charles Quest-Ritson.

Foolproof Guide to Growing Roses by Field Roebuck.

The Ultimate Rose Book (Including Miniature, and Wild-All Shown in Color and Selected for Their Beauty and Fragrance by Stirling Macoboy.

The Rose Bible by Rayford Clayton Reddell.

and lastly:

The Complete Guide to Roses by Ortho.
