I have been using the same "Family Tree Maker" software for my family research since I began back in the 90's. I would like to upgrade without losing all my old GEDCOM files. I have used Ancestry for family trees as well but I'm not sure if I'm happy with that system and I am not comfortable with uploading my life's research online for the world to see. I have read the reviews and I am leaning towards "Legacy 2014", partly because of the ease of loading my GEDCOM files. Does anyone use "Legacy" and what is your opinion of this program? Does anyone have a different program to recommend?

My moms the "gravedigger" I just got dragged along (I know the physical side and have been to some conferences)

    I showed to mom
1 she has been at it my whole life she has had nearly every known version of family tree maker she still uses it! She also had a me version computer that had everything on it --today I'm glad to say she uses a mac
2 she still uses family tree maker loves the ancestry integration (and I'd guess has her tree 100% private!)

As far as I'm aware gedcom is like a zip or an mp3 its a universal to what it does

We were gendetective beta testers for mac and I did I believe test it shortly on Linux it allows searching of the gedcom files if I recall

She wants to hear if you've found anything so she can try and I'm just a geek (Linux is über geek os)

Netty have you found a new one? I had Family Tree Maker many, many years ago...before the LDS website went online. But the first upgrade on my computer many years ago meant I couldn't run the version I had and I lost everything and just haven't thought about getting another one....until now.

I have Linux and Legacy2014 will run on Linux with a windows emulator so Randy is checking out the recommended ones to see which one to put on my computer. It has WINE now but he hasn't found anything good said online about it.

I ended up getting the new Family Tree Maker 2014. My Gedcom loaded without a problem.I am still trying to get used to the new format. Sometimes I get frustrated when I cant find what I want and end up using my old FTM. I think it just takes getting used to.

Is there anything specific that's troubling? I can ask what to do

My guess is it's like going 95 to xp (did that my personal/main computer) not quite iOS to droid

It's all there it's WHERE no? Chances are they wanted more features and simpler so perhaps try that?
