Scattered what I hope is straw over the entire oval garden as a mulch/weed barrier. I fear I used hay which means I will be tugging sprouts all summer. Oh well.

Got the mowing done. Then thinned out/potted up some things for the plant sale in August... Crinum, Yarrow, Canna, White Butterfly Ginger and some succulents.
I have some pots still sitting around waiting to see signs of life, some got emptied out and others are set aside just in case. I also sorted through all my empty pots. I'll be sacking up all the little containers and trays and taking them back to the store for recycling.
Also pulled some weeds here and there. It was a pretty easy day... just wondering around and doing a little of this and a little of that.
What I really should have done was clean out around the blackberries and strawberries. Next weekend... I promise.

I finally got out in my front gardens today. It was breezy and perfect out there. I blew all the leftover leaves and made labels for all my plants in the first 2 gardens.I have about 9 to go in front.

Hubby is cleaning out the chickens now. He will have about 8 pickem-up-truck loads to take over to the local farm. He did 3 loads yesterday and today. They love our chicken "stuff".

We will both take a week of good weather to finish our 2 jobs. But it's good to get out there and do stuff.

I have been looking for a supplier, but none found yet.

Sjoerd, this young fella is keeping his family farm for his mother. When we asked him if we could put my chicken stuff in his fields he just gave a very large non stopping smile. I asked why he was smiling like that. He said usually he had to beg for it and here I was with my fingers crossed....

Isn't that funny. Now I may sell his wife and his mom eggs.

I got most of my marigolds planted, 3 more hollyhocks and some eggplant. Then decided to repaint a fountain piece. Hope to finish him today.

Heh heh heh....What a nice story, Ware. Man, if i ever find a source, I will have one of those smiles too...and you'll need sunglasses all the way over there to combat the sparkle of my teeth. My grin will be tremendous, I'll look like a 'possum. chortle.

Ah yes...what I did today--I transplanted. Two tom sorts, four melons, two sorts of paprika's.

I had a look at the roots of my Terragon and decised to let them go another week. The marigolds will also wait a bit. They do not yet have their first flowers. I usually pinch them off and wait until things begin to go again, then transplant them into other cells or just set them out if the weather conditions are auspicious.

I have lots more to plant, but our weather here is so crazy at the moment, I am loath to take chances. Tch! I was all set to plant some more flowers, but I shall not wait a week or so.

I need to look into the bee hives as well, but not in this rainy, windy and sharply cold weather. "Inclimate" is a weak euphemism that nowhere near describes what is going on outside at the moment. :?

i got my tiller back from the small engine repair in working order, so i tilled about 60% of the garden - turning under all the straw/horse manure mixture that i had put out several weeks ago. i have a free supply as we have near us a horse steeplechase racetrack that hosts two major events every year: the Carolina Cup and the Colonial Cup. the pile is massive, about three times the size of my house and it is free to haul away. JACKPOT!! my compost will be awesome for the foreseeable future. it will also make a great mulch to suppress weeds as well as enriching the soil in the process.

This week and weekend i will be transplanting seedlings into individual cups for distribution to family members etc. the best will be saved for planting in my garden, obviously!

I got the berry area all weeded & fed. Added some soil and a bag of my compost to level out a low spot. Then spread out a bail of hay. Straw is no-where to be found.
There's baby strawberries already and tons of blooms on the black berries.

    Still waiting...
    Come on 40 degrees...

My little sprouts are enjoying the window, but are bored with the grow lights. I guess I'll pot them and wait a little longer.

Not doing anything in the gardens today. Got over 5 inches of rain last night and I'd probably sink to my knees.

Actually, I'm hoping to cut that last 24 ft of sod either this weekend or next and till the garden. Maybe, I'll set up the concrete blocks and start making that raised bed I've been thinking about. Hopefully, our nights will be staying over 40 degrees by then and the following weekend I can start planting... Hopefully...

Moved two nice sized trilliums I missed last summer. Think I got enough soil that they won't even know they've moved. Will have a lot of trilliums in the woodland garden. :-D . Widened one little walkway with extra pavers lifted from another area. Now I will be able to get the wheelbarrow through. :-D Have one more bokashi bucket to empty in the bottom of the planters for this years green beans. :-| not my favorite task.

Well, spring has FINALLY arrived here. Raked the entire front yard and overseeded the grass. (It did not have a happy winter.)
Then I wandered around my yard with my pruners and clipped a bit here and there. I am finally seeing plants coming out of a long dormancy, and turning green. :D
Then, at the end of the afternoon, we had a wonderful thunder shower and it dropped 1/2" of nice, warm rain!! Yippee for spring!!!
My Crabapple trees are about to burst into bloom!
