I purchased one hydrangea root from a company online - it came up with up a stalk that is about a foot big and has a great blossom that is beautiful. There was a storm last night and this morning the bloom is all bent over and touching the ground, like the wind bent it over. I checked and there looks like there was no damage to the root or the stalk - any ideas? since it is a new growth - do I need to cut it?
I think I'd be tempted to just leave it alone for the time being kmonihan as it may well recover on its own. However, if the stalk starts to turn brown where it's been bent over then cut it back to within a couple of inches off the ground. The root should remain healthy as there is no risk of frost at the moment.
