    It looks like a grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) to me. If it actually is the common grackle, I do not know. There are several types, I believe.

    Looks like a grackle, but the ones we get here have a bluish/purplish tinge to them on their heads and backs.

    What's the red? Is that part of the bird? If those are feathers it could be a Red winged Blackbird
    They have red shoulder patches that they flare out when confronted with competition for a female.

    Say Toni--Look at the eyes in Donna's foto. I don't think that the red-winged blackbird have eyes like that. What do you think?

    None of the ones in my yard will hang around and 'watch the birdy' for a full facial photo. ;) But those eyes do look like one of the grackles.

    That is a cardinal on the ground behind the grackle.
