I pass this grove of bamboo like trees on a road in my town all the time. They've been cut back once and appear to be growing back in spades. I thought they were bamboo (wanted to pick a few shoots to cook) but the leaves are too big. Any ideas?

Didn't get get a picture of the grove, but here's the root and the upper part of the shoot. They're mostly green with a little red where the leaves shoot out from the stem/trunk.

Can you get a picture of the whole plant. that looks like the flower stem of a rhubarb, but not the leaf stem. There is another invasive plant that grows huge with a white flower late in the Summer called Japanese Knotweed, but I am not sure without a better picture of the whole plant to say for sure it is or isn't that. the leaves on your picture don't look quite like ours does here, but if they are just emerging it could be the difference.
