I have an area in the backyard which is under trees (pine and cedar). We pruned the lower branches of the trees, so the area is partially shady. I am not sure if the soil is good though. Here are pictures of the ground: ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) Is this kind of soil good for any planting? What can I plant here? Also, if I have to improve the soil condition what do I do? Thanks!
That soil would be good for planting blueberry bushes, strawberry plants and at the edge, perhaps a Rhodi or a hydrangea.
If you want to improve the soil quailtiy, try looking for natural fertilizers or use compost. I read somewhere that plants love banana peels as food.
I use leaf mold to improve soil. Rake your leaves in the fall, pile them up, let nature due its composting business, then spread on the garden to improve soil.
