I am currently reading a book called "Gnomes". Written by Wil Huygen and illustrated by Rien Poorvliet, it was first published in 1976 and recently updated in 2006. It is a very interesting study on Gnomes and suggested reading for Gardenstewers.

By the book then, Trolls are an enemy of Gnomes, but they do not try to kill them. There is, however, a far worse character known as a Snotgurgle. They live to be 2000 years old and are born thieves. Gnomes seldom survive an encounter with a Snotgurgle. There are only a few Snotgurgles in existance now, or so the book says, but they were known to inhabit the same general areas as trolls and that would include Sweden. Be careful, Frank, be very careful.

I have a book titled "Gnomes and Gardens" by Nigel Suckling, illustrated by Wayne Anderson. I haven't read it in a few years but think I had better read it again to see if there is any mention of the Snotgurgles....a rather unpleasant sounding creature if the name is any indication.

I need to find a copy of the book you have too, I have 6 Gnomes and will need to determine the best way to protect them if those creatures are world travelers.

Thank you for the heads up DR, upon hearing about this 'Snotgurgle' I sent a gnome reconnaissance team to find out more information. Well they were quite fast in retrieving a photo of said creature...

A wicked looking thing full of menace in my opinion. They took this photo only a few miles away from here so I wonder what I should do to avoid being 'snotgurgled' (yuck!) ?? What does the book say about a gnome's defences against them?

Once again the gnomes thank you DR.

Sorry Frank, the site you mentioned must be Gnome specific, as it will not allow me access. I can say that the book Gnomes shows a picture of a snotgurgle who looks like a very ugly troll on steroids and with a runny nose. In the picture, he appears to be in the process of running a gnome through a bean slicer. Not a pretty picture and not for the faint of heart. All the book says is that they must be avoided at all cost!

That picture of the snotgurgle did not do it justice. I don,t think it had been eating well. I hope you never run into one that is hungry!
