What stunning pictures! We don't have orioles here, so the only way we can admire them is through your great photos--thank you!

Do you think it is attracted to the orange of the feeder Sherry? Beautiful shots!

Years ago when I was trying to attract them to my orange feeder I used a small orange flag so they could find it in the spring. Spring is the best time to attract them when they first come to Wisconsin. I have my feeder close to the house, away from the other areas where I feed the birds. I like them to have some privacy so they are not disturbed by the black birds. That is why I used a flag to attract them. If I would of had it in the open area of the yard, I would not have used the flag, they would have noticed the orange. Yes, they are attracted to the color.
It is best to use sugar water that has been boiled , 4 cup water to 1 cup sugar. They come back year after year if you put out grape jelly/jam and oranges cut in half and the sugar water. I don't have luck with them eating the oranges, but the house finches like to eat them. Some years they stay until August and then head back south.
I am taking my pictures right through the glass of my window in my bedroom. I could reach out and grab them if I was fast enough. about an arm and a half length away from me. I would say most of the Oriole males are about 7 inches, the size of a Red wing blackbird. But the juveniles are smaller and most of the females. So no I did not get a new lens or camera, I am just very close to them and I hold very still doing it.

Well I'm a little late on reading this post. Sherry those are great photos. I feed ours both jam and sugar water. We had the young orioles coming for sugar water up until this last weekend. Now none have shown up for several days. Figured they have already flown south.
Here is a picture of the Orchard Orioles we have coming to our feeder also this year. But not as often as the Baltimore's do. Pic's are a bit fuzzy looking as I was taking them threw our patio door. One has to be quick as they do not like to pose for pic's once they spot you.
