Penn's family had a reputation for apple pies that spanned generations. Every fall the uniquely rich and complex aroma of their pies would fill boutiques and farmers' markets across the state, often selling quite inexpensively, as they shared their gift more for love than for money.

His grandparents had moved to Chicago during the Great Depression, and he always felt a friendly envy toward his cousins in southern Ohio, whose mothers carried on the tradition. Others had tried to duplicate their recipe, but no one could even come close to matching the appeal of those pies while still keeping them affordable....

For no one could compete with the pie rates of Penn's aunts.

I knew it was one of these set ups for a groan worthy pun since the details in the story included names etc... But it's still funny. Bad = good.
