That's what I grow every year.. Are they fantastic or what. Especially with a few new potatoes thrown in the pot. Ours are done for the year but I have plenty in my freezer. Just like fresh.

I've tried to sneak in a second planting, they are just coming up now. We were eating them steamed, in soups, stews and I froze a bag. Gave a bag to my neighbor, she cooked them the old fashioned way, real slow, real soft and with bacon. :)

Blue Lakes are the same variety you buy in the can at the store. I grow the bush variety. They are heavy producers as long as you keep picking them, stringless, and stay tender a long time.

Ok. I was in a discount store yesterday & found an (already) opened packet of Blue Lake Green Beans. So I bought it. I plan on planting them today. We shall see if there is enough time for them to germinate, grow, bloom, & produce before frost! (I live in MA)

One thing good about the blue lake bush beans is the beans grow mostly at the bottom of the plant and have a lot of leaves. So even if you get a frost, the beans are close to the ground and should not get frostbit since its warmer there. You might lose a few leaves but that doesn`t hurt the beans.

We shall see how they do. I am growing them in big pots on my back terrace. It is the sunniest part of our property. I guess if I were quick about it, I could always lug the pots indoors when a frost is predicted. )Assuming my back can swing it!)
